Trip up North 2009 |
|||||
A gathering of 16 Society members made the annual golfing tour which this year headed up North. The sun came out to see the start which saw everyone leaving early Friday 29th May to meet up at Boat of Garten. The weather was scorching and the golf was hot too with Jim Sidey scoring 37 points for first place. Tam Thaw was second with 33 points and Harry won the nearest the pin. The victorious yellow ball team here were Harry Black, Paul Fenwick, Tam Thaw and Peter Colford. After a brief refreshment we headed onwards and upwards to our accommodation in Elgin. A few more refreshments then kebabs were had by most before retiring to play the Elgin course the next day. Another glorious day, with a little breeze welcomed the gang on day 2 at Elgin. In great condition the scoring was not so high with George Wilkinson gaining 31 points, just ahead of Brian Nicoll on 30 points. Andy Thaw got nearest the pin and group of Angus Thompson, Leitch Douglas, Rab Williamson and Brian Nicoll won the yellow ball. Following a late, heavy night in the lovely city of Inverness the boys gathered with thick heads to face the challenge of Inverness Golf Club. Presented again in immaculate condition it still proved difficult with the winning score being 32 by Harry Black. Peter Colford was second with 31 points. Willie Rattray managed to get nearest to the pin and the fourball of Harry Black, Rab Williamson, Tam Thaw and Graeme Buchan. The weather continued as the drinking did and we made our final trip down to Grantown on Spey. George Wilkinson took the honours for the last day with 43 points, beating Jim Sidey with 40 points. Nearest to the pin was the particularly ill, Paul Fenwick. The yellow ball winners were Billy Simpson, Harry Black, Peter Colford and Jim Sidey. The grand prize giving took place at Grantown on Spey's clubhouse where the overall winner Jim Sidey received his prize. George Wilkinson collected runners up. The team doubles prize for the week went to Jim Sidey and Al McHattie. A thoroughly enjoyable weekend was had by all which was only made better by the fantastic weather. Start saving now for next year, details will be announced later in the year.
