A particularly drizzly day made conditions even more demanding than usual for the 2008 Championship at Balbirnie Park golf course. The 20 strong squad arrived in good mood, helped along by the coffee and bacon rolls.

There was much hilarity and jeering for the first tee which was only hightened when Rab Williamson decided to have an early trip in the trees to help use up some of his strokes. A poor start but he wasn't last with scoring difficult as the long course was made longer with very little run.

It was a close run competition in the end with Harry Black being crowned Champion of 2008 in the strokeplay , just beating Billy Simpson who also won the nearest the pin with a lovely 6 iron to within 8 feet. They also won the Stableford competitions so the prizes went for third place to Tam Thaw and fourth place Barry Lewis.

The yellow ball team prize was won by Harry Black, Leitch Douglas, John Cox and Rab Williamson. The hidden hole winner was Jim Sidey.

A fine feed was enjoyed with a couple of beers to toast success and drown sorrows.

Next month it's off to the James Braid designed Kirriemuir golf course set in the heathland / parkland area at the foot of the Angus glens.
