We were all a bit apprehensive as we headed across country to play our annual Foxes v Hounds (Oldies v Young) competition. With a hard frost spreading across the country who could guess how Auchterarder would hold out. The frost however only delayed our start times (by one hour) and although the last group were concerned about light we set off just before midday.

Twenty one arrived bright and early and the draw was made after assurances from the pro that we would set off before 12. The teams were set after checking a few ages; sorry for those we had wrong, and all we had to do was sit about waiting for our delayed start.

This turned out to be one of the best days weather wise with some decent scores posted and one of the most comprehensive victories for the old foxes in recent years, led from the front by our veteran golfer Eric Boyd who won our usual Stableford competition by three clear points, leading the charge behind him was young hound(?) Graeme Buchan. The Yellow Ball team in a closely contested match were Eric Boyd, George Wilkinson, and Kenny Field. Harry Black was the most accurate at the 12th winning Nearest the Pin and John Cox won the Hidden Holes competition. This left the choice for the Bandit of the month, which was quite easy really as the 81 year old winner and captain of the foxes Eric Boyd thoroughly deserved the honour.

Next month we head to St Andrews Bay (now Fairmont) to play the Devlin (now Kittocks) on the 7th December, The course has been improved since we last played there so it won’t prove any easier for us high handicappers.
