Lundin Links Balmullo Inn Golf Society BRN Bunker

March 2009

It was unusually dry for this month’s trip to Lundin Golf Club, 21 members made the trip, early enough for our bacon rolls and coffee, Frank Sidey was this month’s winner with Nicol McNair coming second, The difficult course meant that none of the six groups came home with the yellow ball, Gordon Laing was most accurate at the 5th to win nearest the pin and Frank Sidey won the hidden holes. Nicol McNair was this month’s bandit.

Picture above shows the difficulty of the bunkers at Lundin Links, particularly the 13th hole where Brian Nicoll had a bit of a hamlet moment and admitted defeat after 7 shots. Well we'll say it was 7.

Next month we stay local again heading down to play at Thornton Golf Club, established in 1921, this is a scenic and wooded, parkland course renowned for the condition of its greens. The course, bounded by the River Ore, is easy walking and will provide a stirring round to players of all abilities. The course provides a challenge for the serious golfer and a real test for those who tend to hook and equally offers a pleasant golfing experience for all. The course has a testing finishing five holes which hold your attention to the very end. Here, the River Ore comes into play with the par three, 14th 'Burn' hole a particular feature. The price is £32.50 plus sweep, including coffee and roll, with the first tee time at 10.30.
